We are pleased to be one of the first veterinary practices in the area to offer home laser therapy services. The most common condition we treat with the class 4 laser is arthritis. If you prefer, we are happy to come inside your home to laser your pet. We can also provide laser therapy inside our mobile clinic.
What is laser therapy?
Laser therapy is a drug-free and surgery-free treatment that improves function and accelerates healing. The Companion Laser Therapy system sends photons, or packets of light energy, deep into tissue without damaging it.
These photons are absorbed within the cells and induce a chemical change called “photo-bio-modulation”. This light energy then increases production of ATP in the cell. ATP is the fuel, or energy, cells need for repair and rejuvenation. Increased ATP production leads to healthier cells, healthier tissue, and healthier animals.
Is laser therapy new?
Laser therapy has been used for the past 40 years and has positive effects on different types of cells, tissue, and disorders. It became FDA approved in 2003. It is used in human medicine especially for athletes.
What does laser therapy do?
- Increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage to decrease inflammation and edema
- Speeds tissue repair and growth
- Reduces scar tissue formation
- Improves nerve cell regeneration
- Activates immune cells
- Provides pain relief by suppressing nerve signals to the brain
What pets can benefit from laser therapy?
- Older pets with arthritis or degenerative problems
- Pets recovering from surgery
- Working, service, and competition dogs for “maintenance therapy” much like we would visit a chiropractor

- Ear Hematomas
- Intervertebral Disc Disease

What will My pet feel? Are there any side effects?
Your pet will feel a gentle warm heat. As the laser is administered, often pets will relax and enjoy, much like you would experiencing a good massage. The almost immediate relief of pain will allow your pet to be comfortable and we can even cause angry cats start to purr and dogs to fall asleep during their therapy session.
There are no known side effects except eye damage if the eye is in direct contact. It is important that human’s wear protective eyewear and pets’ eyes be shielded to avoid retinal damage. The effects of the laser are unknown where cancer cells are present, so we do not laser pets with cancerous lesions unless it is the only option to provide pain relief.
How long does laser therapy take?
The actual treatment lasts from 5-20 minutes depending on which area we are treating, the size of your pet and how many areas are being treated. The amount of treatments vary depending on the unique issues of your pet.
When can I expect to see an improvement?
You may see relief in the first treatment or so as pain and inflammation are reduced. For example: better mobility for joint conditions, drying and healing of dermatological issues, faster healing for wounds and incisions, or your pet just seeming more relaxed and comfortable. For some conditions, a series of treatments may be necessary before you see results due to the severity or complexity of the condition.
What does laser therapy cost?
Cost per session depends on your location and the number of sites on your pet that require treatment. Sessions range in price from $55-75.
